Medicine & Healthcare
Retreats are offered for physicians, nurses, health care administrators, and medical educators. In addition, several institutions have introduced this approach to personal and professional renewal to their colleagues, faculty, and students.
Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME)
In 2001 the ACGME established the “Parker J. Palmer Courage to Teach Award," given annually to ten residency program directors nominated and chosen by their peers as representative of the best in relationship-centered and humanistic medicine. Each awardee is invited to an annual Courage to Teach retreat led by Drs. David Leach and Paul Batalden.
Indiana University School of Medicine
Since 2002, a system-wide relationship-centered care initiative at the Indiana University School of Medicine has included a Courage to Lead retreat series for administrators, faculty, and students. These retreats have had a strong impact on the culture of the medical school and on the quality of relationships of those who teach, practice, and learn there.
Relationship Centered Health Care
Relationship Centered Health Care offers Courage to Lead retreats, facilitated by Courage & Renewal Facilitators, for leaders in health care.
