A Benevolent Community Circle For Educators – Creating Space That Nurtures The Soul

We invite you to join us for a weekend Retreat that will be the beginning of building a Benevolent Community Circle for Educators. Our intention is to continue gathering together following our time in retreat, via Zoom (twice a month), for a year to continue the conversations and relationships.

As I teach, I project the condition of my soul onto my students, my subject, and our way of being together.” – Parker J. Palmer, The Courage to Teach: Exploring the Inner Landscape of a Teacher’s Life

Educators are natural Givers – We give freely to our students and their families, to each other, to our school community, to our own family and friends, often at the risk of depleting ourselves of the time we need to replenish our energy, our spirit, our creativity, and our enthusiasm for all that we love.

In our generosity of heart we can forget to care for ourselves – to build and foster a community that shares our dreams, our joys, our fears, our questions and challenges – a community tied to relational trust and confidentiality, a space outside of the classroom that is safe enough to speak our truth, courageous enough to live with integrity, compassionate enough to hold another’s dignity and care for a colleague’s well-being.

It is with this in mind that we humbly invite you to join us for a weekend Retreat that will be the beginning of building a Benevolent Community Circle for Educators. Our intention is to continue gathering together following our time in retreat, via Zoom (twice a month), for a year to continue the conversations and relationships – to be thought partners, sacred listeners, supporters of ideas, holders of disappointments, and successes – engaging each other with openness and kindness.

Our time in Retreat will follow the Courage & Renewal® Approach, created by Parker J. Palmer and The Center for Courage & Renewal – spending time together, in small group discussion, and individual reflection, known as a Circle of Trust®. We will use poetry, music and photography as generative companions, inspiring us to connect more deeply to ourselves and others – all with an intention to create a foundation from which to build a benevolent community for educators that will continue to provide support throughout the year.

June 23, 5:00 PM- June 25, 2023 12:00 PM for retreat, then 2nd & 4th Tuesdays by zoom
The community we begin to build in Retreat will continue with 75 minute Zoom calls on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month, beginning July 11th at 7:00 p.m.
