Courage & Renewal
Mentor Application

A FORMATIVE FRAMEWORK FOR MENTORING

The relationship between facilitators in preparation (apprentices) and their mentors is key to sustaining the integrity, quality and future of the Courage & Renewal approach and creating the trustworthy space we offer to participants in our programs.

This relationship is founded on a shared love and commitment to this work and its Core Values and Principles & Practices. The time of apprenticeship is a key component in discerning successful completion of the Facilitator Preparation Program (FPP) and meeting its core competencies, in order to take this work into the world as a Courage & Renewal Facilitator, and member of the Facilitator Collaboration.

As is true of any authentic learning journey, the mentor-apprentice relationship is a reciprocal one, full of promise, surprises and challenges. The information below describes the expectations and experiences required for becoming a mentor in the Courage & Renewal approach. Please read through this prior to completing the application questions.

Courage & Renewal Mentor Qualities, Expectations, and Experience

The Center for Courage & Renewal Facilitator Preparation Program cultivates qualities of presence and leadership, nurtures facilitation skills rooted in the Courage & Renewal® approach, and develops competencies needed to successfully offer the most immersive experience of our approach, the Circle of Trust®. The relationship between FPP apprentices (those in the apprenticeship phase of CCR’s Facilitator Preparation Program) and their mentors (experienced Courage & Renewal facilitators) is key to sustaining the integrity, quality, and accessibility of Circles of Trust.

Therefore, a potential mentor would demonstrate the following:

  • A deep and demonstrated understanding of the Foundations of the Courage & Renewal® approach (Core Values, Principles & Practices, and the Principles and Practices at Work in the World); and expanding awareness of how these foundational elements relate to extending and deepening the trustworthy space offered to participants in a Circle of Trust;
  • The ability to create a disciplined yet nurturing space for taking an inner journey in community;
  • Program development capacity for introducing and developing Courage & Renewal programs and retreats including marketing and recruitment, venue logistics, communication with participants, etc.;
  • Skill and experience with design and facilitation of Circle of Trust® retreats and other programs;
  • The capacity to create communal teaching and learning experiences through the use of varied and evocative Third Things (for example, open questions, thematic poems, teaching stories, embodied activities, images, art, music, etc.);
  • The integration and facilitation of deep-listening practices (e.g., listening as a mindfulness practice, Clearness Committee process);
  • Leadership and facilitation rooted in an understanding of the power of paradox and the ability to hold tensions in life-giving ways.

Mentor Expectations/Experience

  • Have a minimum of 2 years of experience leading Courage & Renewal programs on a regular basis;
