This introductory Circle of Trust® retreat is based on the Courage & Renewal® approach developed by Parker J. Palmer and the Center for Courage & Renewal. This experiential gathering is open to all pre-K-12 and higher education teachers who wish to pause and reflect upon their teaching and remain true to themselves in the midst of challenging times and situations. This retreat is designed to provide support and encouragement for teachers in the following ways:
- A stronger sense of purpose, renewed commitment & increased satisfaction with your work
- A heightened sense of personal and professional renewal, readiness to return to your work refreshed and energized
- An increased capacity to be fully present in your work by providing a reprieve from the hectic bustle of teaching
- A deepened capacity to tune in to the individual needs and gifts of students and colleagues
- Expanded teacher capacity to manage stress in order to be resilient and purposeful
What happens at the retreat?
This one day retreat will consist of carefully designed, intensive individual and collegial activities, using poetry and teaching stories, journaling, art, and dialogue to explore how teachers can allocate their energy in ways that are consistent with the deepest values they have about themselves as a teacher and a person. The setting of this retreat will allow for opportunities for quiet reflection, attentive listening, and meaningful dialogues (in both small and large groups) on our educational practice and the interconnections between our personal and professional identities.
