Reawaken Courage, Connection and Gratitude in Belize

Throughout the retreat, we will explore, individually and in community, the thoughts and behaviors that hold us back and inhibit our growth. Surrounded by the beauty of Belize and Guatemala, you’ll work hard, be challenged, and leave feeling capable of tackling new opportunities.

On this Bounce Travels retreat, your days will be filled with a soulful blend of scenic hiking, educational insights, and deep, meaningful conversations. You will spend considerable time admiring and reflecting on the unique and impressive Mayan ruins, animals, vegetation, and views found in Belize and Guatemala. You will be accompanied by a community of fellow retreaters led by friendly, supportive, and knowledgeable guides.

Each day, expert facilitators will lead educational and contemplative sessions inspired by Parker J. Palmer’s Center for Courage & Renewal, Brené Brown’s The Daring Way™ programs, and other leading expert voices in self-examination. Throughout the retreat, we will explore, individually and in community, the thoughts and behaviors that hold us back and inhibit our growth. These sessions will empower you with tools, techniques, and practices to help you make changes that better serve you in your pursuit of living a more authentic and wholehearted life. These retreat sessions are interactive, fun, and insightful. Surrounded by the beauty of Belize and Guatemala, you’ll work hard, be challenged, and leave feeling capable of tackling new opportunities.

We begin each day with an early morning reflective practice, educational sessions, and a hearty breakfast before setting out on the day’s adventures. We will spend ample time outdoors admiring and exploring the impressive panoramas and Mayan ruins found in Belize and northern Guatemala. Following our time hiking and exploring the natural world, we gather for a communal dinner in the early evening to enjoy some of the delicious food found in that part of Central America. Each evening, to further help rejuvenate your mind, body, and soul, you are invited to join in an unstructured social hour with your fellow travelers and guides. No matter your fitness level or resilience experience, you are welcome on this active holiday.

During this retreat, you will have the opportunity to explore your inner wisdom in a Clearness Triad. Each participant will learn the skills necessary to create the triad container and support the other triad members as you all explore your inner wisdom around a particular question or wondering each participant is holding. The Clearness Triad is a technique developed by Parker Palmer and the Center for Courage & Renewal that allows each retreatant to serve both as Clearness Focus Person and a Clearness Committee member.

Following this in-person Belize retreat, we offer four additional retreat-style online sessions over six months (worth an additional 6 CME/CEUs). During these post-retreat online sessions, expert facilitators will use a small cohort model to help participants continue exploring the intentions they set while on retreat in Belize and Guatemala. The cost for the additional meetings is $500.

DAILY ITINERARY

Day 1 (Feb 19)- Arrive in Belize City
As you arrive here the day before our retreat starts, you can take in local arts and culture, explore the outdoors, indulge in a unique dining scene, or just sit by the pool and relax.  Plan to arrive anytime this day. The retreat will begin at 7:00am the next morning.
Tonight we are staying at the Radisson Fort George in Belize City.

Day 2 – Belize City
The beauty and historical allure of Belize draw visitors from around the world.  We start our morning with breakfast together, followed by educational sessions.  Our afternoon adventure takes us to the Altun Ha Mayan ruins (200-900 AD). The site covers 5 square miles, has a sizeable Mayan reservoir, and is the burial site of Mayan Rulers.
Tonight we are staying at the Radisson Fort George in Belize City. Breakfast included.

Day 3 – Travel to Tikal
Your Belize to Tikal trip is about wildlife as much as it is about the landscape and ruins. Today we make our way to Jungle Lodge, the only hotel located in the Tikal National Park. Along the way, we will pass Lago Peten, one of the most beautiful lakes in Guatemala. We will arrive at Jungle Lodge in the early evening and have dinner surrounded by Guatemala’s extraordinary flora and fauna. Don’t be shocked if a toucan flies by or a monkey swings past you during your meal.
Tonight we are staying at the Jungle Lodge in Tikal, Guatemala. Breakfast included.

Day 4 – Tikal, Guatemala
The Mayan ruins of Tikal are a must-see when visiting Central America. And today, we will spend the day hiking the Tikal Mayan Ruins, located just steps from our hotel. Tikal is a complex of Mayan ruins deep in the rainforest of northern Guatemala.  Historians believe that the more than 3000 structures on the site are the remains of the capital city of the most powerful Mayan kingdom.  Discover the history of the Mayans and delve into their culture where science, mathematics, and their impressive capacity to build help us understand how this civilization was one of the most important in the history of humanity. In addition, you will hear howler monkeys in the park and have a chance to see the rare Quetzal – a bird native to Guatemala that holds mystical qualities.
Tonight we are staying at the Jungle Lodge in Tikal, Guatemala. Breakfast included.

Day 5 – Travel to Belize City
We make our way back to our home base at the Fort George Radisson. Along the route back from Tikal we will see beautiful countryside, including Central American mountains and lakes. We may not be exploring the major cities, but we will have a chance to see the everyday life in this part of the world. We will stop for a short hike to stretch our legs and surround ourselves with the amazing views found in Biotopo Cerro Cahui. This is not a van ride where you will want to sleep.
Tonight we are staying at the Radisson Fort George. Breakfast included.

Day 6 – Belize City
Relax and shop at the Downtown Plaza or the Four Street Village; both are within walking distance of the hotel.  There are ample opportunities for a massage or just sitting by the pool or the beach.  If you still want an adventure, then signing up for cave tubing with a local tour guide is a solid option for the adventurous.
Tonight we are staying at the Radisson Fort George. Breakfast included.

Day 7
You may leave for the airport any time after 11am or stay in Belize for another day or two of adventure on your own. Breakfast included.

Please Note:
This itinerary may change slightly due to accommodation availability, rain, festivals and spontaneous side trips. This is not an endurance race, nor a competition. Please be respectful of all the different paces and walks of life that come together on this group retreat.
