Delight and Doubt: Holding Hands with Wonder During Times of Uncertainty

I want to meet the world

the way these calendula blossoms

meet the cold.

While everything around them

has wilted or browned,

they lift up their gold and orange faces

like bright earthbound suns—

not with some agenda

to make the world a better place,

but because they are doing

what they are made to do—

to be soft yet resilient,

beautiful and tough,

to carry inside themselves

the seeds for more beauty,

and, when the time comes,

spill them everywhere.

Cultivating a practice of delighting in life’s simple pleasures, in savoring and deliberately taking in wonder, is healthy for us and those around us. We all deal with doubt and uncertainty! Living the questions, becoming curious, and allowing for possibility might naturally lead to wonder, to delight, and to a steady state of eyes-wide-open learning—even amid times of difficulty.

Join us as we aim to live into the Courage & Renewal Touchstone, “when the going gets rough, turn to wonder.” It’s a both/and” paradox that opening to uncertainty might help us become more curious, ask questions and open to possibility—deepening our relationship with wonder. Through the Courage & Renewal Approach® and poetry writing and exploration, this retreat invites you to connect with yourself and others—to slow down, reflect and notice, while experiencing poetry through the gateways of listening, creatively writing, imagination, and shared exploration.

Delight and Doubt: Holding Hands with Wonder During Times of Uncertainty will be grounded in the Courage & Renewal® approach which you can learn more about in Parker J. Palmer’s book, A Hidden Wholeness. All are welcome.

We encourage you to register early, since we have a participation limit and we anticipate that this retreat may fill soon.

If you are a newcomer to Circle of Trust® retreats, we have an additional hour-long time scheduled Monday, November 30, 4:00—5:00 ET, during which you will be able to orient to the Courage & Renewal approach. Please make a note of this time when you register.
