Nature as Teacher: Fridays at Fox Island

This retreat series will be held on three Fridays at a private retreat space on Fox Island, WA, on the shores of Puget Sound. With saltwater at our feet and an eye toward the Olympic Mountains and the Nisqually estuary, we will welcome the more-than-human world as our teacher and guide.

Those of us who live in the Pacific Northwest often express our affection for the part of the world that we call home. The beauty of the mountains, the water, and the forests inspire awe and deep respect. But sometimes these feelings are crowded out by the bustle and demands of our day-to-day life.

We invite you to join us this summer to re-engage with the world in which we live.
On three Fridays in June and July 2023 , we will gather at a beautiful private retreat space on the shores of Fox Island, a thirty minute drive from Tacoma. We will have the opportunity to interact with the seashore, the land, and the forest as well as with the beings who dwell in this space. With integrity and deep respect for the more-than-human world, we will invite the wisdom of our surroundings to make itself known to us.

Led by Courage & Renewal facilitators, this Circle of Trust® series wil be based on the principles and practices of the Courage & Renewal approach®, we will:
• build a trustworthy space for listening to our Inner Guidance as well as the guidance provided by the world around us,
• connect Courage & Renewal principles and practices to living a life in community with the more-than-human world,
• explore how our inner life is grounded in, and responsive to, where we live and how we see our role in the larger community of life, and
• strengthen our connections to the world of nature so that we can better understand what it means to live in reciprocal relationship with Earth and her creatures.

Friday June 9, 9:30 am – 3:30 pm
Friday June 23, 9:30 am – 3:30 pm
Friday July 7, 9:30 am – 6:30 pm, including a celebratory potluck supper together

Through time outdoors, reflection, and conversations in smaller and larger groups, we will have the opportunity to focus on our own relationship with the more-than-human world. Our hope is to create space to slow down and “be” in nature and listen to the wisdom of the world around us.

During these retreat days, we expect to spend much of the time outside. There will be opportunities to walk on the beach and in the woods. The retreat space also offers all the indoor comforts of home including a modern kitchen and restrooms. It will be necessary to negotiate some hills and steps to access the retreat space. If you have any concerns about personal mobility, please reach out to Julie or Karen.

The group size will be limited to a total of 12 individuals. A healthy, sustainability-focused lunch and snacks will be provided each day.

Cost: $290 for the 3-day series. Individual day registration is not available.

There will be a $25 processing fee for cancellation on or before Thursday June 1.

After this date we are not able to provide refunds.
