“Our narratives speak to our souls and guide our hearts.”
Welcome – We invite you to take a meaningful journey with us to Montgomery and Selma, Alabama. Places that hold memories of the many souls whose stories linger in the air and upon the earth. It is said that, “When we walk the sacred places of our past, we begin to feel the significance that our history holds in the present.”
Searching for the Soul of Justice in Sacred and Storied Places is an experiential Circle of Trust© Retreat that enlists history and historical sites as a third thing with an invitation to engage in conversations about narratives, meaning-making, generational trauma, humanity and community. This retreat is planned with a healing justice and self-care lens – one that uses a five fold path to understanding trauma created by Dave Ellis, a nationally recognized expert in his field, and co-facilitator for this retreat. He and Lori Yadin, a trained facilitator in both the Courage & Renewal© approach, and trauma-informed facilitation join to host this experience with the understanding of the weight that the historical sites and museums we will visit together hold. It is with the utmost respect for every retreat participant’s journey and healing process that we provide this foundation so that the experience is one that is supported as we visit these important sacred places that embody the history of the African American experience in the U.S., from enslavement to the civil rights movement and the New Jim Crow era. Dave and I are dedicated to providing a positive and warm retreat environment – and we are excited to be with you in Montgomery and Selma for our 5th Sacred and Storied Places Retreat.
Our time together will include:
The retreat will begin on Sunday, August 11th at 5:00 pm, and will conclude on Thursday, August 15 at noon. Every participant will need to make their own travel arrangements to Montgomery, Alabama and we kindly ask that you please make travel plans so be able to arrive in time for our opening Circle on Sunday, and give travel space so to be present at our closing circle on Thursday. Travel costs are not included in the retreat fee.
For those traveling by air – there is a regional airport in Montgomery. Another option is to fly into Atlanta and rent a car – it is a 2 hour drive from Atlanta to Montgomery. If you are driving, the hotel does have a parking lot (there is a daily parking fee).
The Retreat Fee includes:
