“Community is a place where the connections felt in our hearts make themselves known in the bonds between people, and where the tugging and pulling of those bonds keep opening our hearts” – Parker J. Palmer.
On this Bounce Travels retreat, you will be inspired by the mystery and magic of the scenic landscapes and cultural richness of the Santa Fe area in New Mexico. The secret places of Santa Fe’s mountains, ancient ruins, and canyons invite a personal call to bravery…bravery to stand for what is important for your life. Daily sessions are challenging, fun, and insightful. The hiking trails and various excursions provide rare time to think about your present and chart your future. You will be accompanied by a community of fellow retreaters led by friendly, supportive, and knowledgeable guides during your retreat.
Following a hearty breakfast, each day is a combination of hiking and educational sessions. Accompanied by friendly and knowledgeable guides, our days are filled with a soulful blend of scenic hiking, educational insights, and wonderful food. There is ample opportunity for personal reflection, self-care, and time to enjoy the art and history for which Santa Fe is known. Early evening provides the opportunity to meet for lovely dinners, social hours, and a daily debrief to rejuvenate your mind, soul, and trekking legs. No matter what your level of physical or emotional fitness, you are welcome on this active retreat.
During this adventure, expert facilitators provide daily sessions inspired by the Center for Courage & Renewal, Brené Brown’s The Daring Way™ programs, as well as research from other thought leaders on spiritual and emotional wellbeing. These retreat sessions are interactive, fun, and insightful. You’ll work hard, be challenged, and leave feeling capable of tackling new opportunities.
During this retreat, you will have the opportunity to explore your inner wisdom in a Clearness Triad. Each participant will learn the skills necessary to create the triad container and support the other triad members as you all explore your inner wisdom around a particular question or wondering each participant is holding. The Clearness Triad is a technique developed by Parker Palmer and the Center for Courage & Renewal that allows each retreatant to serve both as Clearness Focus Person and a Clearness Committee member.

Following this in-person Santa Fe retreat, we will offer four additional retreat-style virtual sessions over six months (worth an additional 6 CME/CEUs). During these post-retreat virtual sessions, expert facilitators will use a small cohort model to help participants continue to explore and incorporate the intentions they set while in person in Santa Fe. The cost for the additional meetings is $500.
This program is co-facilitated by Courage & Renewal Facilitators Corey Martin, alongside Don Drew, a professor and scholar with over 20 years expertise in the field of human enterprise development and Christy Vincent, a communication specialist with years of experience in organization development and conflict management.

Day 1 – Arrive in Santa Fe, NM
Albuquerque’s name means “white oak” an appropriate symbol as the gateway to some of America’s most unique and beautiful landscapes and history. Typically used in oak barrels for aging wine, the white oak is also an appropriate analogy as a container for personal transformation. Plan to arrive any time on this day, and if you arrive early enough, take in Albuquerque’s museums and “old town” or hike one of the three local canyons with over 700 petroglyphs carved onto rocks by Native Americans and Spanish settlers 400 to 700 years ago. The retreat will begin at 8am the next morning.
Tonight we stay in Albuquerque.
Day 2
Sandia Peak, just north of Albuquerque, is home to the longest aerial tramway* in the world. Reaching the 10,378-foot crest of the Sandia Mountains you will have an 11,000 square-mile panoramic view of the Rio Grande basin. While hiking the ridge trails you will experience stunning vistas while traveling through groves of Engelmann spruce, white fir, and ponderosa pine. We leave Albuquerque after our breakfast together to start our adventure with Sandia Peak, then travel to Santa Fe via a comfortable passenger van to arrive at our hotel, meet for our initial retreat educational session, and have dinner near the Santa Fe Plaza, a National Historic Landmark. Not into aerial trams? No problem. We’ll be driving the vans up the back side of the mountain so you will still be able to enjoy the hike without the tram ride.
Tonight we stay in Santa Fe. Breakfast included.
Day 3
This morning, after our breakfast and morning session, we will be hiking one of the area’s favorite trails in the foothills over Santa Fe. The Atalaya Mountain trail is a 6.2-mile out-and-back trail offering amazing views of both the surrounding wilderness and the city of Santa Fe. Back home we’ll meet for a second session together, some reflection and relaxation, and another wonderful dinner at one of Santa Fe’s famous restaurants. Be sure to try one of New Mexico’s favorite hatch chile dishes while you’re here.
Tonight we stay in Santa Fe. Breakfast included.
Day 4
Beautiful and mysterious Bandelier National Park with its ancient pueblo ruins and waterfalls are on our agenda today following our morning breakfast and session. Travel the Pueblo Loop trail and peer into long-abandoned caves while gazing at petroglyphs before climbing the wooden ladders to the ceremonial Alcove House 140 feet above the canyon floor. Then wander along Falls Trail through pine trees and past tent rocks to arrive at the Frijole Creek waterfall. Later we’ll refresh ourselves with a wine tasting at the Black Mesa Winery, part of a wine-making tradition that is 200 years older than California’s. After savoring some of these local wine offerings, you may want to explore the rock labyrinth hidden in the hills behind the winery. After dinner, you’ll have an option of enjoying a night of stargazing provided the sky is clear (not included).
Tonight we will stay in Santa Fe. Breakfast included.
Day 5
Today, after our morning session, we’ll travel to the city of Taos, founded in 1795, where you will have the opportunity to hike the Rio Grande trail as it follows along the west rim of the Rio Grande Gorge offering stunning views of the surrounding area, including the tallest peak in New Mexico as well as the 800 foot deep Taos Gorge. The trail is packed dirt and rock with less than 240 feet of elevation change. You can hike up to eight miles out and back. Don’t be surprised if you see big horn sheep along the way. Next, we’ll follow the high road through the mountains back to Santa Fe stopping at el Santuario de Chimayo, home to one of the most famous and often painted chapels in all of the southwest. The chapel contains a small room called el pocito with its round pit, the source of “holy dirt” (tierra bendita) that is believed to have healing powers. While enjoying this mountain top experience, we’ll have a one-hour special session, then an early dinner at the Rancho de Chimayo restaurant. Don’t miss the Comidas Nativas dishes.
Tonight we stay in Santa Fe. Breakfast included.
Day 6
After our morning session, we will travel to our final hiking destination, Kasha-Katuwe. This hike features a number of geological formations and a slot canyon on the way to the vista. That afternoon you will be free to do a little shopping or check out Santa Fe’s many art shops, museums, and galleries. Don’t miss a stroll down Canyon Road and have tea or coffee at the Teahouse. This evening we’ll have dinner in the mountains at the Japanese-inspired resort Ten Thousand Waves.
Tonight we stay in Santa Fe. Today’s Breakfast and Dinner included.
Day 7
We’ll have a final morning session at hotel after breakfast, then drive to Albuquerque. The drive will take one hour. Schedule your flight out of the airport starting at noon OR stay the night in Albuquerque and fly out the next morning.
