This 2-day Women’s Weekend is an opportunity to experience Wisconsin’s Washington Island, reconnect with what is most important in your life and consider how we can all live more fully within our relationships, neighborhoods, and community.
This program is being independently organized and led by a Courage & Renewal Facilitator(s) prepared by the Center for Courage & Renewal. While we support our facilitators in various ways, CCR has no direct responsibility for the planning or facilitation of this event. This 2-day Women’s Weekend is open to those who are seeking to live with authenticity, claim voice and agency, and explore the wisdom of their inner teacher, while also increasing commitment to their neighborhoods and communities. This retreat has been specially designed to bring women into conversation, to build community and to foster self-care, self-compassion, and self-discovery.
Special winter pricing is being made available to all women who attend this 2-day weekend experience. The weekend retreat is open to women who are year-round residents of Washington Island and women who are called to travel to Washington Island for self-reflection and community building.
Our host, Jeannie Kokes, welcomes participants to Heron Home. Through her generosity, we will begin with a simple dinner of soup, salad, and bread — delicious food prepared onsite. Jeannie’s mission of gathering people and offering hospitality are hallmarks of time at Heron Home.
Winter on Washington Island is the perfect time and place to explore and practice Touchstones:
Being Present
Welcome
Speaking with Intention
Listening with Authenticity and Depth
Exploration
Trust
Confidentiality
Living the Questions
Pausing
Grace and Reflection
Hope
Honor and Respect
In large group, individually, and in small groups of “twos or threes” we will have time to consider and respond to questions that enliven our spirits. The facilitated time is planned for your comfort, to include invitations into simple art activities, writing, and reflection. The expansive windows at Heron Home provide a view of the bay; poetry, short essays and quotes allow insights.
Give yourself the gift of reflection, renewal. Give your neighborhoods, communities, and relationships the presence of your attention and action.
“Community is not a goal to be achieved by a gift to be received.”–Dr. Parker J Palmer

A warm, hearty welcome … This retreat has been specially designed to bring women into conversation, to build community and to foster self-care, self-compassion, and self-discovery.
[] Revitalize your commitment to the values that give meaning to your life.
[] Increase your ability to listen openly and be present
[] Learn reflective practices to become more intentional.
[] Explore questions to build and sustain a vibrant community.
[] Expand trustworthy and authentic relationships.
Each day of renewal will include creating a quiet, focused, and enlivened space—a Circle of Trust®—where personal, inner wisdom can be heard. There will be a mix of time spent in large group, small group, and individual reflection along with poetry, teaching stories, wisdom traditions, nature, and activities for exploration.
We will use these experiences and other rich metaphors to symbolize, discover and explore life questions. Together, we will experience creating spaces in our lives to tend and nurture our desire to live fully with courage and resilience.
The Center for Courage & Renewal exists to nurture deep integrity and relational trust, building the foundation for a more loving, equitable, and healthy world. Dr. Parker J. Palmer, a world-renowned writer, speaker and activist, is the Founder and Senior Partner Emeritus of the Center for Courage & Renewal.
