Everyday Solace: Nourishment, Connection & Community in Restless Times

Everyday Solace is a unique gathering where we come together to nourish our minds, bodies, and souls. We believe that in the midst of restlessness, finding connection and building a supportive community is essential.

Everyday Solace is a unique gathering where we come together to nourish our minds, bodies, and souls. We believe that in the midst of restlessness, finding connection and building a supportive community is essential.

Throughout the weekend, you’ll have the opportunity to engage in various activities that promote self-care, self-awareness and personal growth. From interactive sessions to clearness committees and opportunities for being in nature and for creativity, we’ll explore different ways to find solace in our everyday lives.

Whether you’re seeking a break from the restlessness or simply looking to connect with like-minded individuals, this event offers a safe and welcoming space for all. Our aim is to create an atmosphere where you can rejuvenate, reflect, and forge meaningful connections with others.

Join us for a weekend retreat at Slí an Chroí, in a beautiful setting in Co Wicklow starting on Fri Mar 22, 2024 at 5pm. These days will be about finding solace and support in our daily lives, especially during challenging times.

The climate crisis, war in many parts of our world, increasing divisions in society, escalating cost of living and injustice in its many guises impact most of us in one way or another.

Personally, we have all encountered losses, whether of health, relationships, career or how we once imagined our lives would be. When we find ourselves in challenging times, we can become disconnected from our inner wisdom and our needs for nourishment, connection and community become clearer.

Everyday Solace is a reminder that even in the busiest of times, we can find solace and support within ourselves and our community. So mark your calendars and join us for a weekend filled with nourishment, connection, and the power of listening to our inner teacher.

What to expect…

Circle of Trust® retreats are based on the work of Dr. Parker J. Palmer and developed through the Center for Courage & Renewal. They nurture supportive communities of reflection and practice to help us come alive with a renewed sense of purpose and facilitate us to cultivate the courage to overcome challenges, thus making a difference both in ourselves and in our families and communities.

In this retreat, we will come together as individuals and as a community in a way that honours both our solitude and our togetherness. Our time together will be shaped by a distinctive set of principles and practices that help create gracious, trustworthy space for your individual reflection and which will guide our interactions as a group. We will maintain an intimate and confidential community with a small number participants.

Everything is invitational in large and small group conversations, with time for journaling, reflection, listening, sharing and silence. We will draw on poems, stories, music and wisdom traditions to inspire our journey together towards wholeness.

The retreat will include clearness committees – a unique and powerful process that supports individuals to raise an issue or dilemma for discernment in a small and safe Circle of Trust.

This retreat is suitable for anyone who would like time to reflect on their inner life and role in the world. If you are curious about or seek a more fully authentic life, then this retreat is for you!

‘At the deepest levels of human life, we do not need techniques. We need insights into ourselves and our world that can help us understand how to learn and grow from our experiences’      (– Parker J. Palmer)

Begin Friday 22 March 2024. Check-in from 15.30 hrs UCT/GMT in time for 17.00 hrs start.

End: Sunday 24 March 2024 at 13.00 hrs followed by lunch and optional Q&A session ending at 15.00 hrs.

~~

The retreat is residential for all participants who are requested to arrive in good time to find their rooms and settle in before the first session.

The retreat will start at 5pm on Friday, and conclude after lunch at 2pm on Sunday, with an optional one-hour Q&A session for those who would like to stay on for this.

We will have a short session before dinner on Friday, and a session in the early evening afterwards. On Saturday, we start the day with reflective, silent time in community (optional), before moving to breakfast. We will then have circle time in the morning, in the second half of the afternoon, and the evening. ‘Clearness Committees’, a distinctive feature of our ‘circles of trust’ approach, will feature on Saturday. On Sunday, we again offer reflective quiet time together before breakfast, before moving into our morning session.

We aim to keep our time spacious and restorative, so there are plenty of breaks in addition to meal breaks, and we have scheduled a rest period after lunch on Saturday.
