Resting in True Nature: Attuning to the heart’s whispers

"Take rest; a field that is rested gives a bountiful crop." ~Ovid To reclaim our true nature, to embrace our true selves and let our lives speak, requires us to listen to the quiet whispers of the heart.

Take rest; a field that is rested gives a bountiful crop. ~Ovid

To reclaim our true nature, to embrace our true selves and let our lives speak, requires us to listen to the quiet whispers of the heart. In a culture that glorifies output, achievement and productivity, we rarely pause to question the cost to ourselves. Pausing and resting is often seen as something to be earned: only when we have achieved, can we allow ourselves to stop and rest.

True nature moves differently. It reminds us that growth and rest are not opposites, but partners: while fields lie fallow they are replenishing; trees shed their leaves to be replaced by new growth; tides ebb and fall back as much as they flow and encroach. Nothing in true nature is in a constant state of productivity, and yet everything flourishes. Nonetheless, in the loudness of a human world that seems never to stop, choosing to be still and rest can seem like a radical act.  Truly though, it is through such acts of self-care that we nourish our true nature and create the foundations for a meaningful life.

This retreat invites us to slow down and access the wisdom of the quieter rhythms of true nature and appreciate the value and potential of rest. Through conversation, time outdoors, journaling, stories and writing, private and shared reflection, and the spirit of the place where we gather, we invite you to join us and co-create a space for pausing and resting. Here we can attune to our heart’s whispers and let our lives speak.

The retreat runs from 16.00 on Sunday, 4th Oct to after lunch (14.00) on Tuesday, 6th Oct 2026.  The fee includes accommodation in single-occupancy rooms with ensuite facilities, all meals, and all retreat activities. Arrival is from 14.00 with drinks available.

The formal program of the retreat commences Sunday afternoon at 4pm and ends on Tuesday after lunch at 2pm. We encourage you to arrive in good time so that you can settle in, find your way around, explore the grounds, have a drink and meet the other retreatants before we commence.

Our program for the retreat will be guided by our two facilitators. The reflection journey unfolds over the weekend, with sessions throughout the day starting in the morning, and including the early evening. In keeping with the theme for the retreat, our time together will be relaxed and spacious, with a rhythm that allows for breaks, drinks and meals, reflective time and being outdoors.

Our retreat venue is Ballyvaloo Retreat Centre. It is nestled in the heart of Wexford in the South East of Ireland, approximately 1.5 hours from Dublin, and 3 hours from Cork. The centre overlooks the sea and is an ideal setting to take time out from the stresses of everyday life.  You can take a look by going to their website:

All accommodation is in single-occupancy rooms with en-suite facilities. The bedrooms are simply yet comfortably furnished. All rooms offer walk-in showers, electric over-blanket and attractive views. As there is no passing traffic, you can be assured of a peaceful stay and a restful night.

There is easy access to the unspoilt beach along a fully tarmacadamed walkway to a private entrance. The beach is a renowned 11km (7-mile) stretch of fine white sand, famous for its Blue Flag status, soft sand dunes, and as the filming location for Saving Private Ryan. The viewing point, which is accessible to all, offers a breath taking panoramic view of this beautiful section of the Wexford coast line. The healing rhythm of the ebb and flow of the tide on the beach provides a wonderful opportunity for walking and relaxation.
