Life is filled with moments of joy and sorrow. Appreciating the imperfect, impermanent and incomplete nature of this life can be challenging. In this Circle of Trust® retreat, we will explore these questions, along with what author Caryl Casbon calls “deep time”. Through individual and small group reflective practices and creative expression, we’ll venture out onto the edges and thresholds of our life, to discover and befriend the paradoxes of standing at the edge of time.
This program is being independently organized and led by a Courage & Renewal Facilitator(s) prepared by the Center for Courage & Renewal. While we support our facilitators in various ways, CCR has no direct responsibility for the planning or facilitation of this event. Please direct any questions to the facilitators using the contact form below.

Life is filled with moments of joy and sorrow. Appreciating the imperfect, impermanent and incomplete nature of this life can be challenging. Each moment we find ourselves standing at the edge of the next moment.
How do we want to spend it?
How is my relationship to time bringing me alive or wearing me down?
At what speed am I living my life?
At what speed do I want to live my life?
In this Circle of Trust® retreat, we will explore these questions, along with what author Caryl Casbon calls “deep time”. Through individual and small group reflective practices and creative expression, we’ll venture out onto the edges and thresholds of our life, to discover and befriend the paradoxes of standing at the edge of time.
Exploring the concept of time among the ancient cliffs of the Piedra Lumbre seems quite fitting! Ghost Ranch, made famous by painter Georgia O’Keefe, encompasses 21,000 acres of towering rock walls, vivid colors and vast skies. Our retreat will be held at Casa De Sol, an adobe home nestled among the cliffs of Ghost Ranch. We will have exclusive use of this home that surrounds an open courtyard.
Standing at the Edge is rooted in the Soul of Aging program, written by Caryl Casbon and Georgia Noble, is a small-group program based on the work of Dr. Parker J. Palmer and The Center for Courage & Renewal. Wint and Kirstin have been leading these retreats since 2019, both online and onsite. As one previous participant wrote,
“This retreat experience was a most refreshing, encouraging, imagination-sparking experience; it helped me to uncover a story line that has shaped my identity, vocation and relationships from the beginning of my life that I had not fully realized before.”
*Wint and Kirstin have designed 4 separate retreats, drawing from the Soul of Aging program, Parker Palmer’s book, On the Brink of Everything, other materials, and their own lives. You can read about other iterations below (under ‘other retreats’ headline)
Ghost Ranch, an Education & Retreat Center, nestled amidst the breathtaking red and yellow cliffs of the Piedra Lumbre, is where vibrant colors dance to life, and the intersection of history and spirituality is discovered.
From captivating archaeological sites to invigorating outdoor activities like hiking and horseback riding, Ghost Ranch provides a sanctuary for exploration, rejuvenation, and the nurturing of one’s inner self.
With a diverse and storied past, which encompasses the majestic era of dinosaurs and the artistic presence of icons like Georgia O’Keeffe, Ghost Ranch warmly welcomes individuals from all corners of the world who seek inspiration, connection, and a profound sense of wonder within its transformative embrace.
The 21,000-acre Ranch is owned by the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). Since 2018, the ranch’s facilities and programs have been leased to and managed by The National Ghost Ranch Foundation, Inc., an independent, 501(c)3 non-profit organization.
