Based on the life and teaching of Thich Nhat Hanh, this nature immersion retreat is based at the Avalokita Center, a small retreat center in Castelli, one of the most beautiful villages of Italy with ocean and mountain views. Through mindfulness mediation practices in the plum Village tradition, individual and group reflection, and immersion in the natural landscape, we explore what it means to live in connection with each other, to cultivate a hope based on wise, skillful and compassionate action, and to rekindle moral courage and clarity to create a world that we know is possible.
This program is being independently organized and led by a Courage & Renewal Facilitator(s) prepared by the Center for Courage & Renewal. While we support our facilitators in various ways, CCR has no direct responsibility for the planning or facilitation of this event. Spiritual strength and presence are among the greatest thrusts for healing and transformation, both personally and socially. Now more than ever, we are called to look deeply and live in deep connection with each other, to cultivate a hope based on wise, skillful and compassionate actions, and to rekindle moral courage and clarity to create a world that we know is possible.
This retreat comes at a time when you might be asking yourself: “What now? How can I deepen my spiritual practice, find my resources and commit myself even more to supporting a morally and socially just world?”
This October marks the 100th birthday of Thich Nhat Hanh. The retreat centers the teaching of Nhat Hanh and Parker J. Palmer. A safe container for exploring issues of life transition, social justice, climate change, and more will be held with by the Center for Courage & Renewal’s Touchstones.
During this retreat, you will participate in various mindfulness practices rooted in the Plum Village tradition of socially engaged Buddhism founded by the Venerable Thich Nhat Hanh. These include sitting, walking meditations, and food and rest meditations. You will also have time to reflect in silence, both individually and in small groups, to help you regain balance and support your healing process.
The retreat offers the opportunity to immerse yourself in nature, practice gentle yoga and physical movement, and experience deep relaxation. In addition, you will be able to draw inspiration from listening to Teachings of Dharma and engage in practice together with a vital community, which will support you. These practices are designed to help you nurture quiet, calm and inner peace. At the end of the retreat, you will be able to return home with a renewed sense of clarity, understanding and commitment, which will support you in your personal life and in your actions in the world.
